Kala jam or kala Jamun is a very similar dessert recipe as of gulab Jamun but different in texture, colour and ingredients used. Gulab jamuns are golden brown in colour whereas kala jams are black or some shades away from black, paneer is used in kala jams whereas gulab jamun are made with khoya or mava, arrowroot flour. This is really very simple and easy to make Indian dessert dish served hot and chilled both but tastes awesome when served chilled.

Mainly this quick kala jam is prepared from khoya or mava, paneer, all purpose flour and some other spices. You can prepare this yummy and delicious sweet recipe at the time of festivals, parties or any other occasions. Specially your kids goanna love this dessert as kids love the sweets and desserts more and more. There are some things to be remember while making this kala jams and they are make the sugar syrup perfectly, fry them with care as they get cooked quickly.

All the required ingredients used in this recipe are very simple and commonly available in grocery shops and markets. Ingredients for Kala Jam:

100 gm Home Made Fresh Paneer.
200 gm Khoya.
50 gm All Purpose Flour.
2 Cup Sugar.
2 Cup Water.
1 tsp Cardamom Powder.
1-2 tbsp Milk (Optional).
Ghee or Clarified Butter for Frying.

How to Make Kala Jam:

Step 1.

First of all take sugar in pan then add water and put on gas, cook it till starts boiling, cook it till become smooth, we need smooth sugar syrup, check the syrup by putting one drop between thumb and finger if it is smooth then it is ready or else cook for another few minutes.
Now turn the heat off and keep the sugar syrup on gas so it can be remain hot.

Step 2.

 Now put khoya and paneer in pan along with all purpose flour and mix well, while mixing add 1-2 tbsp milk if mixture looks dry, mix well to make dough then make small sizes of balls from it.

Step 3.

Now heat ghee or clarified butter in a non stick pan and put balls in it and fry on low flame so they don’t get burnt, keep stirring the balls so they can cook nicely, when balls become black put them in hot sugar syrup.
Keep the kala jam in sugar syrup for 4-5 hours then serve, you can also put them in fridge and serve chilled also.
