Matar Pulao is one of the very popular and commonly cooked rice dish in Indian houses. it is a Maharashtrian dish and very popular in entire mumbai, this rice dish is prepared in big tawa in the streets of mumbai. This matar pulav is not just a delicious food but it is healthy too. The way of making pulaos and taste varies from state to state and city to city in India. In southern side peoples usually makes lemon pulao, in northern side they makes vegetable pulao and uses fresh and various kinds vegetables for making pulaos.

Today we will show you a very different kind of matar pulao recipe which is really very tasty and easy to make, apart from making regular pulao and getting bored with having common rice dishes you can try this and i am definitely sure that you will love this easy matar pulao dish. In this yummy pulao recipe we have used very different kinds of ingredients which usually peoples don’t use and made it very different in taste as well as in texture.

This Indian vegetarian rice recipe can be cooked for breakfast or lunch or dinner and it goes good with onion-tomato salad or raita or you can also have this with green chutney. Ingredients for Matar Pulao:

1 Cup Basmati Rice.
¾ Cup Green Peas. (Fresh and Frozen).
½ Cup Thinly Sliced Onions.
¼ Cup Chopped Tomato.
2-3 tbsp Oil or Ghee.
1 tsp Garam Masala.
Water As Per Requirement.

Whole Garam Masala:
1 tsp Cumin Seeds.
1 Inch Cinnamon.
1-2 Black Cardamom.
2-3 Green Cardamom.
1-2 Cloves.
1 Single Strands of Mace. (Optional).
1 Medium Bay Leaf. (Optional).

How to Make Matar Pulao:

Step 1.
Wash basmati rice till the water runs clear, soak the rice for 30 minutes then drain extra water and keep aside.

Step 2.
Heat oil or ghee in a pressure cooker or in a pot, add cumin seeds along with all the whole spices, saute them till spices releases their aroma and become fragrant.

Step 3.
Add sliced onions, stir and saute till onions are golden or caramelized, do not burnt the onions as this will lead to bitter taste in the pulao.

Step 4.  
Add tomatoes and cook till oil get separated then add red chilli powder then the peas and saute for a minute.
Now add the drained rice and stir gently, saute for a minute then add salt and mix it nicely.

Step 5.
Cover and pressure cooker it for 2 whistles on a high flame. If you are cooking in a pot then cover pot tightly with a lid and cook the rice till all the water is absorbed and rice grains are cooked.

Step 6.
Fluff the rice and serve matar pulao hot with onion-tomato-raita or green chutney.

Notes

If coking in a pot, then check the rice whilst they are cooked, if all the water has been absorbed and the rice grains have not cooked completely, then just add just few tbsp of water, cover and cook the rice for a few minutes.
