Shakarkandi ka halwa or sweet potato halwa is a very simple and easy to make Indian sweet or dessert recipe. Taste of this halwa is really very delicious and yum. Usually sweet potatoes are used more and more during the fasting and you can also prepare this sweet dish for fasting during festivals. With being delicious this halwa is also very healthy and nutritious too. Mainly it is prepared from sweet potatoes, milk, sugar and some spices.

Not only for fasting you can also make this quick shakarkandi halwa for any occasions or whenever you want to eat something sweet and healthy. We didn’t add dry fruits in this halwa but if you like then you can also add chopped dry fruits. This is because the original taste of sweet potatoes is very tasty and dry fruits makes little change in taste therefore we didn’t add and just used for garnishing.

Ingredients for Shakarkandi ka Halwa:

3 Boiled and Peeled Sweet Potatoes.
½ Cup Milk.
¼ Cup Powdered Sugar.
Pinch of Cardamom Powder.
6-7 Threads of Saffron.
2 tbsp Ghee or Clarified Butter.
7-8 Cashews for Garnishing.
7-8 Chopped Almonds for Garnishing.

How to Make Shakarkandi ka Halwa:

Step 1.

First of all put the gas on and heat a nonstick pan, now cut the sweet potatoes in small pieces, put ghee in pan and let it melt.

Step 2.

Now put the chopped sweet potatoes in little hot ghee then mash it with masher or spoon, add saffron threads and roast the sweet potatoes for few minutes at medium flame (it will take around 8-10 minutes).

Step 3.

Now add milk and stir continuously till milk get reduced (it will take around 4-5 minutes), now add powdered sugar and cardamom powder and mix well and cook it for further 2-3 minutes.

Step 4.

 After 2-3 minutes turn the heat off take out the halwa in a serving plate and garnish with chopped almonds and cashew nuts and enjoy.
