Stuffed Cheela Recipe | Chilla Recipe.

Hello friends today here we are with a very delicious and healthy south Indian main course recipe which is well known as stuffed cheela or chilla. It is very similar to masala dosa but little different in taste as well as making. Usually masala dosa is thin and has boiled potatoes and other veggies stuffing whereas stuffed cheela is bit thick and has tomatoes, capsicum, paneer and some spices stuffing. Mainly it is prepared from green gram lentil batter, paneer, tomatoes, capsicum and some spices.

This quick stuffed cheela is bit difficult to make for the beginners but you don’t have to worry about here we’ll show you how to make this stuffed cheela with very simple and easy method. In south India this cheela is also very popular as a street food item and exclusively available at street food shops and carts. You can have this yummy and tasty cheela in morning breakfast or at dinner with green chutney or coconut chutney or any other dip of your choice.

Ingredients for Stuffed Cheela:

350 gm Split Green Gram (Soaked in Water for 4 Hours Then Grind and Make Batter).
350 gm Paneer.
2 Finely Chopped Tomatoes.
2 Finely Chopped Capsicum.
¼ tsp Cumin Seeds.
½ tsp Garam Masala.
½ tsp Fennel Seeds.
½ tsp Coriander Powder.
¼ tsp Red Chilli Powder.
1 Inch Grated Ginger.
Some Freshly Chopped Coriander Leaves.
Pinch of Asafoetida.
1 tsp Lemon Juice.
Salt according to taste.
2 tbsp Oil.

How to Make Stuffed Cheela:

Step 1.

First of all heat oil in a pan, when oil gets little hot add cumin seeds then add asafoetida, coriander powder, fennel seeds, red chilli powder, garam masala, ginger and mix all the spices well.

Step 2.

Now add in capsicum and tomatoes, mix well with all the spices then crush paneer with hands and add to pan, again mix it well and saute for few minutes.

Step 3.

Now add salt, lemon juice and fresh coriander leaves and mix well then turn the heat off and take out the stuffing in a plate and keep aside.

Step 4.

Now take split green gram batter add in ¼ tsp red chilli powder, ½ tsp fennel powder, ½ tsp coriander powder, salt as per taste, pinch of asafoetida and mix well.

Check the consistency if the batter looks thick then add around 2 tbsp water and mix well. (Consistency should be like as of Pakoras or fritters)

Step 5.

Now heat a tawa or griddle, put little oil on tawa then put some batter on tawa and shape it like dosa, cook it for few minutes, when it changes the colour put little oil on it then turn the side and cook this side for few minutes also.

Step 6.

Again turn the side and cook it little then put stuffing around 1 tbsp (put stuffing more or less as you need), now fold the cheela and take out in a plate.
Make all the stuffed cheela’s similarly and serve hot with green chutney or coconut chutney.
