Matar Pulao Recipe
Matar pulao recipe is popular Indian rice dish cooked oftenly in Indian houses.

Ingredients
- 1 Cup Basmati Rice.
- ¾ Cup Green Peas. Fresh and Frozen.
- ½ Cup Thinly Sliced .
- ¼ Cup Chopped Tomato.
- 2-3 tbsp Oil or Ghee.
- 1 tsp Garam Masala.
- Water As Per Requirement.
- 1 tsp Cumin Seeds.
- 1 Inch Cinnamon.
- 1-2 Black Cardamom.
- 2-3 Green Cardamom.
- 1-2 Cloves.
- 1 Single Strands of Mace. Optional.
- 1 Medium Bay Leaf. Optional.
Instructions
- Wash basmati rice till the water runs clear, soak the rice for 30 minutes then drain extra water and keep aside.
- Heat oil or ghee in a pressure cooker or in a pot, add cumin seeds along with all the whole spices, saute them till spices releases their aroma and become fragrant.
- Add sliced onions, stir and saute till onions are golden or caramelized, do not burnt the onions as this will lead to bitter taste in the pulao.
- Add tomatoes and cook till oil get separated then add red chilli powder then the peas and saute for a minute.
- Now add the drained rice and stir gently, saute for a minute then add salt and mix it nicely.
- Cover and pressure cooker it for 2 whistles on a high flame. If you are cooking in a pot then cover pot tightly with a lid and cook the rice till all the water is absorbed and rice grains are cooked.
- Fluff the rice and serve matar pulao hot with onion-tomato-raita or green chutney.
Notes
If coking in a pot, then check the rice whilst they are cooked, if all the water has been absorbed and the rice grains have not cooked completely, then just add just few tbsp of water, cover and cook the rice for a few minutes.
